Holy something!

My dog, have I done a lot of work on this project or what?! In three words, yes, yes and yes.

You know things are getting interesting when you wake up and have to babble ideas into your recorder because you can’t go back to sleep. I talked to Joe yesterday about when he might be available to do some prop design. This put me in the mind of the Book of DOG which I just unearthed. It was just over 4 years ago when I launched the Book, which was a guide for artists to participate in the project. I can see it needs some revision, but holy shit, that was a pretty bold move on my part. None of folks I invited did anything, so I have two exciting tasks ahead, 1) magnetize artists to the project and 2) produce and effective reference so they can hook in.

I am not sure where the notes are about this, but I was thinking about using wordpress as the basis for the new Book of Dog, I mean all the inventory just posted there with tags and categories and then searching for say “shot 23” and everything relevant would pop up.

Trying test searches with both HB and Dogthemovie open side by side, I was getting different results. How can I make WordPress find all the posts that have anything to do with “shot 23”? Here are my questions after noodling around a bit…

Are all the DOG pages from HB on DOG?
Is wordpress a reliable search engine? If I always want a particular category to bring up information, like every post that has the category ‘scene 33’, can that happen? I notice comparing DOG and HB that they don’t always bring up the same information when searching. What’s up with that?
Is it something to do with the way cross post (an older plugin for syncing posts between sites – 10-13-12) worked?
Does feedwordpress get changes?

flicker on and on, radiation level today is… germ count today is… chances of catching the fatal gumba flu. the reasons these signs flicker because we’re being trained not to notice the awful, stupid lit signs along 31. just a given. trained not to notice the clutter and the crap along the highways. why would we put up with giant flickering billboards in the hallways of the places that we live? because we’ve been trained to not notice them, so invasive, they are constantly in our face.

So what is DOG but a proof of concept? yeah I bit off way more than i could chew with acting and directing and sets and location and crew, learning after effects… what could it be now? what i could do with this movie is at least make a proof of concept of the moving painting. Strange world, feeling that Faisal described as David Lynch because he’s never seen what I can do before. The closest thing he could think of is David Lynch but what DL does is nothing like what I do. DL is a lot of empty calories. I’m powered by myth, great universal ground of being. Those two things I can touch on. Yes I need to be a stronger director and have better actors and more money, yada yada yada. This is what I am reaching for, this achieves my vision within the scope of this project a world the moving painting.

The problem with the roto people is they are sub par and what’s the answer, the blog post didn’t really work. not sure M knows what he’s doing, it’s like his interpretation of hair. The point is, to attract really good people, we have to present strongly, it’s ok if we’re not doing what everyone else is doing, but if we’re going to be an open source project here’s how it works. It looks like it had some thought put into it, makes you want to dive in and explore, it’s ok to have folks jump through hoops, but here’s why you’re jumping through hoops. Create a story. People want to get involved in the story of the project we’re not paying high rates but here’s what you are going to get out of it, this and this. Like a Kickstarter approach. You’re a visionary, you’re an artist, you’re awesome. Get involved in this project and you’ll have a place you can finally express yourself and do cool stuff. The magic ship. Orienting our projects (in the development stage) for collaboration so people want to get involved. I love it, (whispers) I love it!

So, the apocalypse right, the end of the Mayan calendar, can we get a better marketing moment than that? We waited 6 years to release in this moment in time, December 2012. Can we put this together quickly in the next month, finish fucking finish the movie, release date by the end of the Mayan calendar. That would be ideal. Putting it all together for one final brilliant coup. It’s up to us. We can hire roto contractors but we are the only ones who can finish this painting. Only us.

We really want to make that date, we know what to do, we gotta kick some serious butt and live large.

I presented the project and I made a point of good spelling, clarity and organization, but it’s more than that. To attract the kind of talent I need, I have to let them know that this is a very cool project and we’re going to finish it now. Magnetize top artists to me and push away the shitheads who don’t know what they are doing. Who can’t deliver results. The project has to be much more low profile, take it off HB and put it on Trickster Pictures. New FTP site with sample movies, NDA? Whole other push for contractors, fucking hell, we gotta blog and figure this out.
