Welcome back to the DOG progress report. Editorial on the first and second act is (dare I say it?) done. There are some weld edits which require a deeper investment, but after an preliminary test on one of the most complicated – task 68-69 or “I gotta find a boyfriend?” – welding is feasible if applied sparingly. I am ready to reissue the entire project for bidding on the roto. I am clearer this time around regarding what I need to identify artists – 2 or 3 test shots for prospective artists to prove their competency, new movie files, AE reference comps with task numbers, contractor and NDA agreements. I can ask Innes to generate the NDA and repopulate the FTP site today so that he crew at Trace can get back online Monday. Then by Tuesday I should be able to put the call out for new artists. Trace is pretty decent but I’d feel more comfortable if I had more than one basket for my lovely eggs.
Essentials is now more aggressively defined, opening with bricks and broadcasts, flowing into FUDIP theme song, Act 1, Act 2, credits and 3 Joe epilogue. Essential repairs and continuity are included – dead bird poster, blown out window, etc. Tunnel, flashbacks, changing sequence, surveillance, boxes, red hallway – all gone. This is not the dream DOG but it’s a manageable objective to achieve by May – with help. If the Essential structure is executed with aplomb then deeper explorations of story will be easy to bolt on after.
So there’s the day in a nutshell. Onward!
