What’s essential?

In theory, we could loose the intro to Joe, though that fucks up the ending with the surveillance of C and G, unless we introduce the interface on laptop with G, which has to stay anyway. Then the inference is that Joe is watching C and G from C’s cabin. That means also that we loose the office with cousin Phil and Eiji until the end.

I’m adding Essential, either 0 = no, 1 = yes, 2 = yes but no change. For the edit, I have to pay attention to 1 and 2, for estimating VFX I only have to pay attention to 1.

This is messing me up. Let’s go to either essential or not. The complexity will knock out what doesn’t need changing.

So now for Essential it’s 0 = no and 1 = yes. Period.

For edit and VFX, everything that’s 1 stays and everything that’s 0 is dropped (for now). The keywords in the description will then sort the tasks into groups, we’ll have to have a list of all keywords and columns for totaling each. If there are words that aren’t keywords, that will go in a miss column. we only sort for keywords if the task is essential. Check the logic of this now? Works, crazy functions in calc fer sure. had to use isnumber() to check for false in find().

If a given shot has no changes, there’s still one entry for it for the sake of consistency in the Essential column. Complexity = 0 and Proposed change = none.

I’ve added all the tasks and sorted out the essential and meta tasks. Now it’s about preparing for contractors. There’s a time clock as a web form that emails results, I can also select groups of emails and save them into one document as plain text so I could process them in bulk if I had an app I could configure. Could this be done with expressions in AE? I’ve got to learn expressions anyway and so if I am going to start coding again… I suppose I could also look into whether it’s possible within the spreadsheet without pulling my hair out. Back in the day I would’ve written something in Lingo. Is it worth reinstalling Director and thawing out my frozen code power? Better probably to identify something more generic and contemporary.

Next step is to post chunks of the video with markers for the various tasks. Hire one other roto artist and kick it out to the team.

I’ve posted most of the video requiring roto in 4 chunks ranging in size from 1.5-2.0 gb, each roughly 5 minutes long. I need to repost at least two of the chunks as a few shots have red hallway applied. Any other effects also have to be stripped away. I’m building the four corresponding AE comps now with markers to distinguish the scenes. If contractors want to bring the video into Mocha, they can note the frame numbers in AE to set the in and out points with Mocha. Once the comps are done and new video is uploaded, I can install the DOG clock. The spreadsheet will also need to be updated to remove the names of contractors, then I can assign some work to Michelle and Cameron. I then want to roto the first couple of scenes I assigned to Jeff and keep careful track of my own time via DOG clock to be sure it’s all unfolding as planned. I’ll have to strategize on tasks this weekend and how to pass them out.

idea for key rack – it’s gerry’s Museum of Forgotten Media – floppy disks, CDs, thumb drives. What else fits his character – small things… could it be bread boarded hacker contraption? His distributed architecture? My nano lab (bath) My distributed architecture, my bed. In espanol, tags everywhere so he can learn spanish and chinese names.

would it be worth vignetting the upper corners of Gerry’s to soften the harsh lens bending of the molding, especially facing the molding?
Red hallway, rays from Uncle Joe or both?
G: what? has a garbage mat
G: awkward and foolish… beginning has a garbage mat
G: well it hasn’t always been this… way has splice and garbage mat

Checking roto results in AE for task 40.1. Keying out Christina’s hair is probably workable. If we go the mediatronic route for the boxes, the bulletin boards are another candidate. Other treatments for the hall include some depth of field.

I guess we’re tossing ideas in here that are priority 2 or 3, so here’s another.  Just before Gerry says “Why, why me?” I opened up the in point so he actually steps into an empty shot. Previously I had cut it much tighter so that he was already in frame and we got the continuity from his earlier pose, which was very rooted in the center of the room, like some cognitive adventurer peaking.
The empty space could be loneliness, the vacuum of his life, the stark futility of her cockeyed quest to fuck this dysfunctional loner… s’all good. One way to amp it up is to play the subliminal card, and have something on the wall here that sums it all up in metaphorical neon. An early incarnation was a sign with the word NO featured prominently, maybe an old political poster VOTE for S. Noway Harder. Or tucked up in the high corner of the room, a broken heart shadow. Whatever the device, it would have to be spread over several shots for continuity.
